Festive: Visual Journaling, December 2022 (ARTWORK No. 3)
Hi 😊 I hope you have a wonderful day today.
I was happy to finish artwork no.3 in December. I start to create the sketch in November, but instead of focusing on 1 finished artwork, I was exploring making some character designs.
I was inspired by Rebecca's process of creating artwork using gouache and inks. As usual, as a Desert Club Member, I got a chance to see the process of her making artwork (sometimes recipes too!). She was making an artwork called "Shine Painting". She makes her character dance in joy in the Christmas vibe with lots of shining bits and sparkles. Really beautiful.
So I was thinking, I want to make my character dance too! And because I have a prompt to make a Christmas theme from my Art Club at work, I choose this keyword: Dance, Christmas, Snow, Light/Sparkle.
Here is my sketch. I did this on Procreate. Usually, I make a little thumbnail first to see the overall composition and layout and also try different kinds of color schemes. I put the sketch on my Instagram story and ask my follower to vote on which color scheme suits better. The result was so tight! The winner goes to the right design the one with a warmer tone.
I might create another artwork with different characters using the left color scheme because it's so beautiful and I thought it was a unique color.
Here is the video that shows the process behind "Festive Painting". I use Acryla Gouache and Carandache Neo Color II. I used small brushes for this painting, to see the movement instead of flat color and use some colors in the mix. These are tips from Rebecca that I tried. 😉
Hope you have a magical December!
See you later
Love,
Novita
